Philippine Business Magazine: Volume 11 No. 2 - Publisher's Note

New discoveries

Philippine Business has always made it a point to share with its readers a glimpse of what the country has to offer in terms of sights and destinations. And why not? The Philippines continues to wow local and foreign tourists with its world-famous spots. There are the beach resorts of Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, and Bohol, among others, and many other scenic spots and places spread within the country’s more than 7,100 islands.

People will, for a long time, talk of these destinations many times over, for every experience, even at the same location, spells a whole new adventure for them. It seems like people never tire when it comes to indulging in the beauty of nature.

Instead of giving you a piece of these more famous spots, however, writer Teddy Montelibano brings you to a relatively fresh-found spot somewhere in the Visayas, while our Deputy Managing Editor Maricar Manuzon takes you on a mix of educational and solemn sightseeing in Mindanao. Danjugan Island, found in Negros Occidental, has been a frequented spot for marine enthusiasts for some time now, but has been preserved well by these very visitors – making sure it doesn’t get too commercialized. Within the mountainous area of Bukidnon, Northern Mindanao, on the other hand, lies a scenic, devotional place where monks are known to dwell. Maybe after reading their experiences in these two destinations, you just might be enticed to include them in your list of “must sees” in the days to come.

And while we are in the subject of travel, Philippine Business will also take you on a tour, this time to a business destination, also in the Northern Mindanao area – Cagayan de Oro City. It might be good to reserve your generalization that the whole area is beset with local insurgencies left and right, and read about this fast growing economic center, tourist destination, and convention center in Southern Philippines.
